can I cool the CPU passively? CPU is a 1.4GHz PIII-S. No, but with copper cooler you can noticeably decrease fan RPM.

The first SSDs *are* old enough to be retro already - and yep, guilty as charged: my 'stupid overkill Packard Bell P3' system has an Intel X25E 64GB SLC SSD in it. First SSDs are far older though.

How much video memory do I need for DX33/66? Even 512kb should suffice, but VLB cards are usually 1mb. if having trouble finding good VLB cards. Look for Cirrus Logic CL5426/5428/5429. Those cards are the easiest to find. Best option would be something like S3 Trio 64 VLB. in general it's better to …

Not on Tseng cards, but from my experience with Trident and Western Digital cards, one of them is probably used to enable/disable FIFO i.e. drastically improve performance.

Bottom line: Anything Vista can do, Windows 7 can do better. That said, nobody loves Vista and you can buy Vista Ultimate box quite cheap, if authentic physical copy of OS is your thing.
