Voodoo 1 - won't work. Voodoo 2 - will work with community drivers. You can test Voodoo 2 cards on Windows XP without any issues.

100mhz 486DX4 certainly can squeeze more FPS with a better card. VLB version is not of any concern.

I doubt that this motherboard killed your SIMMs. Test with another PSU, preferably more or less fresh ATX one via adapter.

There is also the dumb 'washed out blacks' bug Trio64V2 and onwards cards are prone to in DOS. Virge GX were rarely made by "cheap" manufacturers.

ATX SS7 board? Around 50-75$, but you probably can find an AT SS7 board locally much lower.

In case there is indeed any under- or over-volting going on. Undervolting can't kill hardware and SIMMs are powered directly from 5v line, so PSU may be involved.

accidentally received MX200 offer It's Monster Sound M80, cheap variation without quadro speaker support and horrible MIDI. From what I understand, this is Vortex 1 It isn't, but Diamond licensed A3D support. Is it possible to use this board with SB? Yes. In fact it's advertised.

Soldered cache = fake. 1.4 is not compatible with late AMD CPUs, at least on paper. M912 was always UMC.
