Re: Have I killed my Voodoo 3 cards for good?

I don't see any obvious faults on the board either. I guess replacing the oscillators is a good start. 300°C over a minute is definitely a bit on the warm side. The OS crashing when trying to load/install drivers for the card makes sense with a malfunctioning clock generator. It also makes me …

Re: Have I killed my Voodoo 3 cards for good?

Why not post some pictures, maybe we can spot anything? Have you tried looking at the BGA array between the chip (substrate) and the PCB? Can you see any balls that have melted together near the EEPROM? Also instead of removing VGA BIOS chips you can just reprogram the EEPROM with another BIOS. …

Re: Any advantages to Voodoo 5 AGP cards ?

[...]is the Voodoo 3 good enough ? Do you have one? Are you satisfied with its performance? If you are it's good enough. ;-) If you aren't, with a Voodoo 5 5500 you'll get anywhere from 1.5x to 3x the performance @ 1024x768 on a fast CPU - depending on games. i rather would opt for using a GeForce …

Re: Not sure what PCI graphics card to get

I might be a bit late to the party but here's my two cents: The Voodoo 3 PCI is a decent Win98 PCI video card but overhyped and prices are way out of proportion. The card's potential is hampered by the PCI interface, early 2000s Nvidia PCI cards make up for that by being faster at rendering and …

Re: GeForce3 Ti 500 Garbage on screen

Very likely bad video ram. :( Inside the attatched archive there's a .iso of Video Memory (Stress) Test Clean Environment. Burn it to a disc and use it to test the ram. You can also get the file here: https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/video_memory_stress_test.html Run the test multiple times …

Re: Voodoo 4 4500 Image Banding

I haven't run a video memory test as of yet, although I'm not aware of any decent video memory test programs? For 3D cards, why not use the one I suggested? ;-) Video Memory (Stress) Test or VMT allows you to check your video ram for errors. It has its limitations with modern video cards as it's …

Re: Voodoo3 3000 garbled display on POST

The issue might also be a cracked BGA solder joint underneath the graphics chip. Those cards tend to get very hot and the chip/substrate might expand so a non ideal solder joint cracks and causes issues adressing the RAM. I have two cards that have similar image problems and pressing the chip …
