As for phosphoric acid, save your money and just use cola (light or zero, as you don't want sugar in it). Cola is mainly made of phosphoric acid and works great for removing rust.

One thing though, I believe you usually can label the bios images in the modchip's loader. Can it be another bios that's just been incorrectly labeled perhaps? Certainly not, as it has an animated splash screen saying "IND-BIOS". 😉

It's not like the RTC is really needed in an Xbox though. You need it if the hard disk fails, otherwise it's bricked. The Xbox will not boot from CD when the date/time is invalid and tries to lead you to the date/time section of the Dashboard instead. But with a failed hard disk, this won't work. …

Problem is that some DOS games start to behave odd when there's more than 16 MB of memory. Syndicate and Hi-Octane are two other examples. And HIMEM.SYS does not allow to restrict the amount of memory if you have more.

It's not IDE but using the Panasonic interface. You can use up to four of these on one cable, that's what the jumpers are for (ID 0 to 3). It won't ever work when connected to IDE, you may even damage the hardware doing this.

So you are destroying existing AWE64 cards to build your custom ones? Not sure about others, but in my opinion, it's completely pointless to destroy real retro hardware for a modern replacement.

I have both of such cards installed in various retro PCs. I'd go for the ESS. While the OPTi isn't bad either, its software/drivers are odd. The ESS on the other hand just requires a call of esscfg.exe to work and you can even change resources on-the-fly.
