Decided to remove the factory-equipped heatsink from one of my Pentium Pros. While it came off easily with some force, the "Intel Pentium Pro" imprint decided to rather stick on the heatsink than on the gold plate. So now I have a very shiny PPro 200. 😁

CTCM should work, or the Intel Configuration Utility ("ICU"). Did you install the Windows 98 drivers only? In that case, you need to install the DOS drivers, too. This will add CTCM to your startup files, so that the card will work in pure DOS as well.

Maybe your BIOS simply doesn't do PnP? That would explain why the card is not found. And also, why you get no sound from it.

It's normal not to get errors in most games, since FM means to just write data to 0x388. Whether something sits there to receive the data is hardly checked by any game. Tested the PC Chips M321 today after having it let dry on the heater for 24h. Seems like the board survived the vinegar bath, cleaning, etc. Now have to add some provision for an external battery.

I'm with Deksor in this case. Better keep your original plan to get a PCI-based 486 board and use that with a Voodoo1. While it's most likely possible to make a 3D accelerator for the ISA bus (if using a Pi or whatsoever), what about the software? No existing game would work with it.

True. BUILD games are not real 3D and any 3dfx patch is just a bad hack. You can't turn a 2.5D game into a 3D game just by patching in 3dfx support. Play it in software mode, as that's how the game is supposed to run. Or get a modern port.

It's much cheaper to just modify a PC floppy. For most drives, tutorials are available and for most it's just cutting some traces and add two or three wires. Did that many times.

Isopropyl won't stop the leakage from eating traces. Vinegar (or any other acid) will neutralize the battery leakage (which is an alkaline solution), so it's completely harmless afterwards. You have to do another bath in clean water, though, to get the vinegar from the board.

Windows 7 and all NT-based systems are working completely different (drive letters are like mount points there). This has nothing to do with how MS-DOS works. Here, you always get your primary partitions first, starting with C:, after that come the logical partitions. And then removable drives.
