Try a game that uses dual OPL2, it won't work. Anyway, repaired an ATX PSU today and desoldered lots of caps, piezo speakers, and USB ports from three old mainboard befor scapping them.

Yes, I use that combination. Make sure you have the MPU-401 interface listed in the device manager. You may need to install it manually. After that, you can select it in Multimedia -> MIDI.

Apparently Opti ISA Chipset 82C931 aka "Opti Audio 16" isn't even a 16-bit card. It's a Soundblaster Pro 1.0 (not 2.0/Old) clone. Weird considering I was under the impression that it was a SB16 clone. There are no SB16 clones apart from some ALS and CMI sound chips. The 82C931 does 16 bit using WSS …

For me: simple things that should make no problems, but do. (e.g. install a 40 GB IDE drive only to find out that the BIOS does not support LBA) Apart from that, faulty hardware that seems to work at first glance.

Just had another SB-55 with severe damage due to leaking caps on the interface board. This makes a rate of 100% so far (two checked, two damaged). In both cases, traces were completely gone. Fortunately, it's easy to fix. But still, check your SB-55 if you got one!

No idea. The 7300, 7500, and 7600 share the same mainboard, so there should be no difference. Case is the same, too. Maybe the 7300 was sold with a too weak PSU. The P100 card certainly draws more power than the newer P133 one.

"Far East only" indicates that there was some legal issue back then, which is probably the reason for that statement. Or maybe the PR166 card got no FCC/TÜV approval for the rest of the world. 😉

It's actually not an issue, really. Hacking the Apple HDD Setup tool is easy as hell and after that, it will no longer check the drive's firmware for the "Apple Computer, Inc." string. Or you can use a third-party tool to init the hard disk. Another way it to use the PPC-only version of MacOS 8.0. …

The problem is not the DirectX check itself (can be skipped) but the fact that DirectX 2 does not work in Win98 SE and the game crashes at launch with a GPF. Installed or directly started from CD makes no difference.

That's the same card. Be carefull, the 12" cyrix-card is ONLY! funktional in the "PC"-Versions of the Apple PCI-Desktops like 4400 and 7220, If you put it in an 7200/7300/7500/7600 etc. it will damage the machine...afaik something with the voltages/lanes? That's not correct, it will work in any PCI …
