The CT4380 is the normal AWE64 card, not OEM. If it gets hot and does not play music even with the diagnose tool, chances are high that the card is simply broken.

Yes, I know. Having lots of Amigas (esp. A600/1200), Macs, and other hardware, I replaced hundreds of those caps in the past. Checked the Korg already, the caps are still looking good. However, the unit seems to be broken anyway. It does not change the patches when in GM mode, making everything …

Well, power consumption is a simple matter of Ohm's law. More transistors need more power, voltage regulators waste power - producing heat etc. It's not (and never was) that someone says: let's build a PC that consumes 400 Watt or something.

That doesn't make sense. GS is a Roland thing. What has the TG300B to do with GS? Yamaha had XG. Set the MU to XG and play a GM song. The unit will automatically switch to TG300B mode (=GM).

That's a nice find, I have that one and really like that GM chipset. It should look like this I suspect: Looks identical to the Hizon DB333, only with 1 MB ROM instead of 512 KB. Too bad it can not do any effects, making it sound very dry.

Tested the Value SimmConn adapter on two slightly different AWE64 cards yesterday (CT4380 + CT4500), works great. Only tested with 32 MB so far, but I guess most people will not go lower anyway. 😁

Modifying the BIOS the result is wrong Termination is still off in that screenshot. I second the question: how exactly is everything connected? Can you make a photo?

@Shponglefan: I guess the MU2000 can not be compared to the MU50/80. I only have the later, so I can't compare the GMega to a MU2000.

This one, too. Drums are much better with the GMega, but that's probably subjective. Also, effects are missing on the MU.

Note that termination power is not termination. Termination is most likely done by installing two/three resistor networks or by using a separate terminator at the cable's end. Unless there's another jumper somewhere that clearly says "termination".

I only meant that the reason TG-300B mode doesn't sound like an actual TG-300 module set to GM mode, is that it's based on another synth than the TG-300, namely the QS-300. But that's the point. It's not meant to sound like that anyway, as it only states GM mode - or more like "compatible with xyz" …
