No, VESA is just an interface for hardware independent screenmode access. There is no hardware acceleration in any DOS game. Hardware acceleration started with GDI (Win 3.x) by involving a blitter.

Games that consist of many files greatly benefit from SMARTDRV. Ultima 6/7 comes in my mind, that was way faster with SMARTDRV. For CD games, it makes no sense naturally.

Are you calling aweutil.exe in your autoexec.bat? If not, the FM part may not be resettet correctly, which may be the cause of your problem.

Important info missing: when you say: "when FM sound is playing", how do you play FM sound? MIDI player, games, etc.? Also, it seems you did not try yet without the 3COM, did you?

I would just look for an AT keyboard with an XT/AT switch. Those are quite common and cheap.

Try the contact form on the website, maybe the author still reads the mails. However, I never used anything else then the shareware version. The few additional features of the registered version are not that important to me. ps: for older systems (< Pentium) I'd recommend using an older version. …
