I think it was just a logical evolution. Also note that the SB16 was not the first sound card to offer 16-bit audio. Also, 16-bit audio at 44 KHz was required to fulfill MPC Level 2.

Unlikely that it gets hot. If it would be bad in a way to make it getting hot, the card probably would no longer work. If at all, it remains cold(er) as it is not detected and not used.

I have that issue with DOMs that are smaller than 504 MB but auto-detected with LBA addressing, even though they require CHS addressing. So it works in WinME? That would be cool, as my Win98 system is dual-boot 98/ME. Also, installing NUSB for 98 should make it work then as well, as all NUSB really does is to implement the USB stack of ME into Win98.

Yes, you just set the refresh rate there for the various resolutions. You can't press "Apply", because you did not change the refresh rate, hence there is nothing to "apply".
