Probably easier just to install Windows 98 in VM as I seriously doubt you will find SATA drivers (or drivers for any of the other hardware in the machine for that matter by the sound of it (just guessing)) for it anywhere.

That is one sick drive. Even drives subjected to some extreme testing (I used to test disk arrays and some tests caused some very worrying noises) didn't sound that bad. I hope you don't have anything important on there.

The DOS maximum volume size is 2GB so its no wonder the installer fell flat on its face trying to address 5 times that. Its simply a condition the installer was never designed to handle because it was impossible given the OS imposed limits.
