Usually the bearing in the spindle wore out or laser had died. Nothing you can do with that. I like LG best as they has long lived laser than anything else I had. Cheers,

I always configure not to use 5Vsb if there's jumpers on the motherboards I come across. This was for waking up the computer from sleep using Vsb to keep usb device alive, which is taken from the Vsb wire from ATX power supply. Not enough current. Cheers,

I just chuck any IDE, PATA drive, and set up bios to use 528MB for DOS if motherboard only supports that. If Pentium board, I'd still do that with any large hard drive and set it as 2, 4, 6 or 8GB and partition them at 2GB each if I'm using DOS only machine. But if I have a special fondness for a PC …

That 386 card is nice to have since it has 32K cache using 385 cache controller give nice boost to the 386DX. But that will not beat the 486 anyway but fun to play with. Cheers,

I had to repair the DC DC internal power supply on SLT 386s/20. One long capacitor had one lead break internally and is free to rotate around after desoldered that capacitor. Replaced the capacitor fixed it up. Cheers,

The resettable fuse is bad on these. Green medium size SMD package near these USB connectors. Turn off and no power, measure across these with meter set to ohms. Should be under 0.1 ohms. Another way to get 5V routed through is using powered USB hub. Cheers,

This is same issue with width also, I have compaq expansion memory card that is tight, have to look into making these but one problem is pins for dip has to be SMT on one side. Width of SOJ solder leads and DIP leads is very close. Cheers,
