you might have cold solder joint somewhere. You need a good light source, some magnification and wiggling wires/components while looking at an angle to spot it

the $7 chinese ebay ones provide same post code functionality, the extra you get with ULTRA-X is optional diagnostic bios replacement.

As they say one mans trash another mans treasure. Sell it and buy a nice 486 case? Personally im not a fan of those primitive homegrown non standard designs, 1990 date codes but still doesnt use simms, almost hundred discrete logic chips and at least 15 PALs instead of modern all in one chipset.

Looks fine to me, dont worry about aesthetics. Polarity, no accidental shorts and solid solder joints is all that matters.

Is CPU heatsink have copper base? very important for Barton CPU especially overclocking! At this 80W for barton core, cooling a bare die is very difficult and does demand quality job. I think this 3Dmark2001 advanced pixel shader test is stressing the power circuits and this overclocked barton …

Yes, what you describe is correct. Remember I have the special ISA gameport card with speed switch and that probably changes the capacitors and that did solve the issue previously, but it was half way solution (only for DOS, not for Windows). So you tried 11x166 and it ran fine, but at 12x166 blows the test. Means its not FSB, so not chipset related. Its either tired capacitors on the motherboard or the cpu itself (cooling?).

Well I changed the bus to 166 and the multiplier to 14, and on a save nothing happened - blank screen. I had to clear the cmos to get back in :( I don't have an oscilloscope or volt meter for testing either, so i'm kinda hoping I can just set stuff and it'll work! 14x166 != 11x200 is your CPU …
