Re: Terminator Skynet problem

Unfortunately, whereas I wasn't having the door crash before, now (with ripsaw's exe), DOSBox (v0.74 official), itself, consistently crashes either as the 3D engine is loading or very shortly after. Playing with resolution, cputype or game mode doesn't make any difference. At least it works for …

Re: F22 Total Air War and soundfonts

in Windows
I do see references to it being a SoundFont-supporting game, but I just found a manual online and a search for "SoundFont" returned nothing. I'm guessing that you're not required to do a thing. Perhaps its automatically loaded if it detects that you have a Sound Blaster AWE32 (which it was most …

Re: dgVoodoo 2 for DirectX 11

If anyone has an issue with the Windows mouse cursor (especially the blue circle indicating that Windows is busy) being momentarily visible when you're playing, try forcing vsync in the dgVoodoo control panel. I've found that that greatly helps with Blade Runner and Outlaws. BTW, I've found that …

Re: General Midi in Xcom games.

I know your post is 5 years old, but I thought I'd mention that TFTD now runs fine with the OpenXcom nightly build. I'm not enjoying TFTD as much as the original X-COM, however, because it's mostly just a re-skin of the original game and because the research tree sucks. Thanks for the tip about …

Re: Warcraft2 mapping number keys to units/groups

in DOS
Dune2 was the same and no group select, ah the "good" old days Warcraft 1 actually does have group select. You have to hold down CTRL to draw your box around units (or use the script that I linked earlier so that you don't have to hold down CTRL). You can't select more than 4 units at a time, …

Re: Sherlock Holmes Rose Tattoo error, "unable to.."

in DOS
I've never used D-fend, so I can't really help you with that, but you need to enable aspect ratio correction. In DOSBox's .conf, that can be by aspect=true in the [render] section. D-fend probably allows for toggling that in the game's settings. There's also always the option of running the game …

Re: Sherlock Holmes Rose Tattoo error, "unable to.."

in DOS
The game believes that it's installed to D:\Holmes2, but, when the batch file tries to change to that directory, that directory doesn't exist. Next, when it tries to run the executable for the game, it can't find it, because the "change directory"/CD command failed, so "Illegal command" is returned. …

Re: cannot get z axis recognized in dosbox

Have you tried changing joysticktype=auto in your .conf file to joysticktype=4axis? There's also the "fcs" type for Thrustmaster, but I imagine that that might be more specific to Thrustmaster joysticks than wheels. There's also the swap34 option to swap the 3rd and 4th axes, which might help. I …

Re: I've never played the original Deus Ex

RPG aspects in FPS aren't really (in most cases). If you just want to play the game then ignore them until you come to a point where you need to use those points to get past an obstacle. That's usually what I do on a first play through. When you play the game again then you can experiment and …

Re: Master of Orion sound/music issues

Yes, run it as if you're running the game. After the "CD Orion", run "Install" (instead of "Orion"). When you're in the install program, you can use the mouse to select options. When everything is selected the way that you want it, click on the OK button to move to the next screen.

Re: Master of Orion sound/music issues

You need to run INSTALL.EXE. It comes with the game and you need to run it in DOSBox. You'll be given an option to Reconfigure Hardware Options. Choose "SoundBlaster Pro (later)" for both. It doesn't matter if you don't have a Sound Blaster in your computer. DOSBox emulates one (i.e. a virtual sound …

Re: Terminator Skynet problem

Huh, weird. I get exactly the same performance with 0.74 and SVN 4025. Maybe some other SVN builds are different. At 75000 CPU cycles @ 640x480 so it wont crash going in and out of doors the FPS is a bit choppy, but not unplayable. I haven't used that SVN build. I had the problem with SVN Daum and, …

Re: Xcopy replacement

There are versions of LapLink for DOS. That'd probably be the most powerful and suitable for your usage. Also, the old XTree may work. I used to use that all of the time, instead of Copy and Xcopy. It was like my File Explorer in the DOS days. Simpler versions may not have network capabilities, but …

Re: Scored Doom 2 Floppies at a Garage Sale - need Disk 4 files!

in DOS
Hmm. I didn't expect that it wouldn't fit on a brand new disk. Perhaps that's another reason why I remember files that size being so problematic. Perhaps they used tricks or special disks to squeeze an extra 1KB out of them than a normally formatted store-bought disk could achieve, no doubt as a …

Re: Outlaws

OK, sorry for wasting your time, I should have actually mentioned that the bug I ran into was fixed in the latest dgVoodoo2 and that the mouse cursor missing was an notice for Dege not something I can't figure out how to work around myself (I use a utility called nomousy). If there's many games …

Re: Windows 10 Dosbox

I use SVN with Nuked FM patched in, but DOSBox ECE is one of the better ones as it includes a sensible set of patches to improve accuracy and add peripheral emulation. http://blog.yesterplay80.net/dosbox-ece-en/ I tried DOSBox ECE yesterday and it does seem to be solid, but I really dislike the …
