You won't damage it but most likely it won't work. AC is required to generate RS232 voltages on such modems. The DC model should generate them with additional hardware while the other should need just some diodes and some caps.

Awesome work on the MS-6168. for the solder joint I suggest you to use a good amount of soldering paste for each pad, you'd be amazed of the result!

Open it and look at the inside. A visual inspection would be the first thing to do before firing up such an old device.

Actually a part of the supply is missing !!! But you can complete it installing the missing parts and replacing the bad ones with quality parts! Consider it as a KIT for practicing in electronics circuit!
