Re: What modern activity did you get up to today?

in Milliways
I was at work, so my modern activity was to fork a moodle plugin and modify its files to create not only a block plugin to show on sidebar, but also a page with the same information. the client can then choose between the block and page mode, whatever he likes. Took me a few hours but I could've …

I just can't understand some people complaining. Instead of being happy with a new, safer forum, mobile-friendly design (I for one am happy with that, most of my access to VOGONS is through mobile). Some are picky and want to complain about the font. Some other, about the colors. Only a few …

Re: What game are you playing now?

For some reason I cannot play Grand Prix Manager 2 on WIndows 3.11 without the CD ROM... and the patches to version 1.02b requires DirectPlay *facepalm* so no chance of playing a less buggy version of the game on WIndows 3.x. But I remember playing it when I was a kid on WIndows 95. At least I can …

What OS are you running? Maybe we can recommend an alternate non-sse2 browser. I use Windows XP SP3 and Debian 8. I can't speak for Linux but for XP there is someone who maintains updated Mozilla binaries: http://rtfreesoft.blogspot.com/search/label/browser He maintains forks of Firefox, Pale Moon …

I'd argue strongly against a "lazy option" for uploading photos. If you can't be bothered to pull your pic into Photoshop and do some basic editing as needed (crop it to show what you want, adjust the brightness / color balance, rotate it into the right orientation, check it's not in smear-o-vision …

I’m fine with the smaller limit for images. The man went to the moon with a computer using 4kb of RAM. We can perfectly fit a good image in a < 2mb image. Plus storage in web servers isn’t cheap these days.

Re: In this new decade, let us remember the Y2K Bug

in Milliways
I think we now have an even bigger problem. The Y2K38 bug. Some 32 bit software will not go past 19 Jan 2038, instead they will roll back to some date in december 1901. Hilarious. Windows 3.1, by other hand, even with the Y2K fix for winfile, will be safe. At least until 2099. Windows 3.1 cannot go …
