I would guess that out of 3 or 4 modems with a double line jack, you can find a bracket that will mount it to a spare slot hole and leave the SD card externally accessible.

Yeah, but if you put a Covox on the Amiga parallel port, it would have been better than an Audigy 2 which was it's direct competitor, and then with the frame store from an S-100 Altair would have had buffered solution for cleaning the floppy heads.

At that point you'll get to wondering if the ISA board is just an ISA backplane for a new PCI board or vice versa.... also I don't think it would end up costing much less than what Sergei K. is brewing up in the way of new 486 boards.

There's one or two things though where the boxed one is nearly the only hope in hell of getting custom cables and adapters that only came with that card and are needed for it's full operation.

Though it should be pointed out that on the fastest 486 systems, properly embussed 3D acceleration is getting close to a max of 2x boost in frame rates on early games that were capable of 3D acceleration and many are only 1.5x boost.
