Density is kinda relative, compared to what BX boards take, you've got high density RAM at present. However, finding lower density 512MB sticks that also run at PC133 may be hard. Possibly there's some wiggle room for applied smartassery, like how you can get some pentium boards to work with two single and one double banked SIMM, two 4MBs and one 8MB for instance.

They're also sitting on a 25W radiator running a 70W radiator instead of a 10W radiator running a 30W radiator also, so about twice the heat booting around in the same box with them to start.

Shouldn't be sluggish, unless the graphics controller holds it back. They were faster than LCDs were until a few years into this century.

I don't know if there's some super bad config of 9200 and 9250, but I noticed before in Notebook review benchmark tables the mobile versions frequently get hammered by the previous 7500s, 7000s, and the following x200 x300 mobile versions which nobody rates huge anyway. Real bad scores in some games …

Could be your cache or memory timings are just marginal enough that the DX-2 can't hammer them 100% and the brief respites allow enough recovery, whereas the DX4 at 100 has enough CPU power to keep up the pressure and they flake.

Get your least pretty DX4, engage it in the socket without fully inserting, pull the lever over until you feel resistance, and scraunch it up and down a few times with a bit of pressure on the lever... the idea being to break through any oxidation that's causing problems.
