AMD got the mediaGX, folded it into Geode and killed the whole line in 2019. However, these are kinda sorta a fast 286 and might be available still http://www.amphus.com/chips/singlechip/330_01.asp

I would check out the serial port in the problem machine with another serial connection, null modem cable maybe, and if that also has problems, suspect a corrupt BIOS.

It's fairly simple, you pin your hopes of addressing the lack of memory by address shifting address pins to address the addressing problem not addressed by merely pinning the pins of the data and lower address buses together.

Well still modern in today's context has become upper half HD6xx0 and GF5x0 upwards, and creeping back into the HD5850s and GT460s out of desperation. 10+ year old stuff now, when 18 months ago, ppl would have been calling 2015 stuff ancient relics.

What I'd try next is seeing if the tag ram is a bit on the marginal side, that's the one alongside the ISA slot there. If it's identical to the rest of the cache chips (Usually is, but sometimes isn't) I'd number them all one to five and try each one out in the tag socket, see if one or two work …

The trick back in the day was to cut thermal epoxy with thermal compound, so it weakened it enough to be able to get the sink off if required, but still hold well in regular use.
