I managed to get everything installed without any "permanent" errors in windows but now the QSdemo doesn't run and complains that "low level drivers" are not loaded. Is this related to the autoexec/config setup of the CSP chip or something?

My turn to necro. This is an awesome thread but there's a gap or 2 in the instructions that's causing me problems. My system was fine until I ran CSPU and it asked me if I wanted to install windows 3.1 drivers even though I think most of us are in the w95 case. I figured saying yes would be better …

I don't think so... but ME boot disk was able to see it, so I guess it has a more recent version of dos running.

OK I was able to solve the problem. For anyone who has the same issue and wants the quick answer, use Windows ME boot disk. Apparently, whatever version of DOS it uses is able to see all your drives. 6.22 cannot.

Does W95 do something to the DOS files that allow you to see F32 partitions? As a band-aid, anything that boots off a floppy and can read F32 will do, if you have any suggestions? EDIT: Wait a minute... W95 runs on FAT16 still. The problem here must have something to do with the size of the volume …

Another thought... Is there anything at all I can turn into a boot floppy that I can use to temporarily access a FAT32 volume (assuming that's the problem) A quick google search says dos 7.1 reads FAT32 but I can't find a boot floppy for it. I guess it's too big? I just need to access this drive …

This is a P133 machine so probably FAT16 and D is definitely on the extended drive. FDISK reports the correct size that D and E would normally occupy but doesn't "see" E. I think I know what you're getting at regarding "primary". I would have thought only C would be primary but then why is D showing …

Well that sucks. If the card was designed to interpret the function calls and the game is using them anyway, why the hell not allow the card to accelerate them?

So does this mean it will run over the CPU if it doesn't detect anything but if it finds a compatible card it'll run in hardware? And only in the DOS version apparently?

err... but I found this game specifically on account that it uses BRender, one of the few APIs that ATi specifically accelerates. So the RageII does nothing in this game? It's all running over the CPU?

With regards to a P133 machine, Rage II, Win95, I'm trying to get Carmageddon to work in hardware 3d. All the videos show it looking pretty good but when I install and run it (I am indeed running the W95 installer), it looks like it's 320x240 at best and no hardware processing to speak of. Horrible …

I tried. It sucked. I think DX is part of the problem. I think I can get way faster performance with DX6 or 7 vs DX8. Not sure if I should go DX7 even... would there be any point for a 1996 machine running W95 and first gen 3d games?

I just installed the card and it doesn't appear to be detecting the additional memory. Is there something I need to know about the physical installation or about how to detect the vram?
