As was stated, just use some wire cutters to snip the legs as close to the battery as you can. then you can leave the legs in place to use as easy solder attachment points for wire leads to a new battery holder or something for easier changeouts in the future. DO NOT REMOVE the other screws along the bottom plate as those are literally the screws that hold the standoffs in place that the main MT-32 PCB is sitting on. Console5 has corrected the mis-print on the capacitor list. I've already gone one of the kits sent to me on hand and will be replacing mine out this week at some point.
