Re: 486 eBay pickup - new project!

Ordered a Dreamblaster X2GS for this today - been going back and forth on it and finally decided to splash out on one so very excited for that. Also ordered the "Chill & Phil" adapter so that it can be plugged into a soundcard gameport and not just a Waveblaster header on the card - this will allow …

Re: 486 eBay pickup - new project!

At the moment still running 4MB RAM - the 64MB kit arrived and when it got here it turned out to be EDO. Tried it out anyway but looks like the board isn't going to play ball with it - checked the ad and I just ordered the wrong thing so now waiting on a non-EDO kit to try. D’oh. I have a CL 5428 …

Re: 486 eBay pickup - new project!

I think I’m sticking to 3.1 on it, it’s kind of fun and different working with it and it’s more appropriate to the hardware. At the moment it’s a DX2-66 in there which I think is decent enough considering I’ve got my P233 system for more demanding stuff. I’ll get some photos of the trace repairs up …

Re: 486 eBay pickup - new project!

I feel like the 486 would do fine in windows 95 to be honest, I’ve run it before on a P75 with 16MB and that was actually really snappy so I’d be hoping at least usable (with the additional ram). I’ve tinned most of the exposed traces but need to pull the board back out anyway so I’ll do the rest …

zapbuzz wrote on 2021-07-26, 18:28: still see these on the market very cheap too and no trim I feel retro sick think i'll have to build something soon That backplate is exactly what I've been looking at - this is my only build with no USB for file transfers so would be a huge convenience and 486 …

Re: 486 eBay pickup - new project!

this was a great find (with great price!) and if not 'new' then it seems likely it wasn't used that much judging from your description & pictures CF and the RAM will make it an excellent candidate for win 95 / DOS mid 90's things Thanks! No apparently not used much at all. Shame the original drive …

Re: 486 eBay pickup - new project!

Had a look in the bag this evening and it looks like all the original manuals are with it - for the I/O and graphics cards, the PC itself and the monitor - sadly, nothing specific to the motherboard. It looks like the monitor is its original one and it also has its original keyboard and crappy …

486 eBay pickup - new project!

Hey all, So recently for the sum total of £1.20 I won an eBay auction for a mystery computer bundle - the only photo was of the back of the PC and an abandoned looking CRT. In the lot turned out to be a Triumph-Adler branded 66MHz 486DX machine with 4MB RAM and I think an 800MB hard drive, a working …

My selection of builds ‘97 - ‘00!

Hey all, now my builds are mostly in a state I’d call “finished” I thought I’d share some pics/specs 😀 The earliest computer I used was a Win95 AT model - one at home and they had them at school - don’t remember anything else about them. When I really got into building/messing around with them they …
