Heatgun + Carb cleaner got a small amount off, bulk of it still there. I'm not brave enough to take a metal razor blade to a die 🤣.

If I recall correctly, the problem was the control chip for the voltage regulator circuit. Sorry, I don't have more specifics.

Not exotic, but Cirrus Logic 5446 based PCI cards are hard to beat in DOS for the price. Tseng ET series is slightly rarer and a good DOS performer.

That's only a 60mm fanned sink right? What would be called "stock" size for an XP, so 53 is about expected, and may go up to 70 full load. The sinks with about a 40cfm 60mm screamer on like a Volcano 6CU would be more like 40 idle, 60 load, then you'd get sinks like an SLK 900 which would have it …

I use the "GINTOOYUN" brand ones off Amazon. Used probably 25 of them at least. No problem. If I do run into a PC not liking the card/capacity it's always the BIOS's fault and XT-IDE/Drive overlay fixes it. Sorry I can't help much for your brand.

A P4 1.4 was the starting point for no particular reason other than reason. I mean nobody really considers a P3 an XP OS, not even on here. What?! A P4 1.4 is slower than some PIIIs. It's ridiculous to say a 1.4P4 is a WinXP class CPU and a fast PIII isn't. Many people had PIIIs when XP came out.

The necroware RTC can use two different chips meant for two different Dallas chips. Did you use the correct one?
