286 “Turbo” Speeds

Hi folks! Back in the day, around 1991, I had a 286 “AT” clone. I don’t remember which cpu exactly, but I do remember here in my country they used to advertise these by their speed, and “dual” speed at that. So for example, they would offer you the “AT 12/16” model, the “AT 16/20” model, and the “AT …

Re: Voodoo 3 Standalone or in tandem

So having both a PCI Voodoo 3 (2000) and an AGP Voodoo 3 (3000), besides hoarding/stocking, regardless of whether it makes sense or not for the dual setup, would there be any point in keeping the AGP one, or just keep the PCI one and sell the AGP version?

Re: Voodoo 3 Standalone or in tandem

Not with a TNT as performance is still pretty close but something later it may make sense. I've got a P3 1Ghz with a Ti4600 as the primary and V3 as the secondary. Most Glide games also supported D3d so if you select D3D it'll just show on the primary device. If you select Glide it HAS to go to the …

Re: Voodoo 3 Standalone or in tandem

It makes about zero sense. V3 3000 was faster where it counted, and in that era of windowns software you often had no way of selecting which card to use. Didnt stop Alienware http://i.imgur.com/SU2TG.jpg That was one of my doubts, regarding card selection, although in windows I would assume it …

Voodoo 3 Standalone or in tandem

Hi All, Coming from the Voodoo and Voodoo that *required* a 2D card, and that I was pairing with other 3D cards (Voodoo with Riva 128 / Voodoo 2 with TNT), I pondered doing the same with the Voodoo 3. With the first card I got it wasn’t optimal since it was a Voodoo 3 3000 but AGP, and so I couldn’t …

Re: SC-55 MKII or Regular?

well, if your favourite game of all time relies on capital tone fallback, then yeah it matters which one you get... otherwise so few games require capital tone fallback it does not matter and something like an SC88 with more polyphony is better :P and since you cant tell unless the supplier shows …

Re: SC-55 MKII or Regular?

Walterg74: As for the link you quoted, see this comment by Cloudschatze: "The v2.00 SC-55s do support capital tone fallback. There is a slight difference in drum set Program Change behavior however, affecting the improperly-programmed sequences of at least two known game titles." That comment …

Re: SC-55 MKII or Regular?

The important feature in my opinion is the extra 4 note polyphony of the mkII, which yields better results in later GM games such as Gabriel Knight, or Quest for Glory IV. And IIRC, the DAC might be 18-bit vs 16-bit. But it's not life or death stuff. https://www.vogons.org/viewtopic.php?t=56988&p= …

SC-55 MKII or Regular?

Hi folks, reading a bit about the SC-55 series, and I’m a bit confused... On one hand, I read that the best one you can get is the MKII, but on the other I also saw the discussion of ROM versions, and it’s also said that an older version (1.20/1.21) was the best one because it lacks no features, and …
