-12V is often only required by opamps on the card (usually little 8 pin ICs) You can try a card without any (usually cheaper ones) and it should work without modification

I have bought parts for and built nearly every aspirational build i've come up with.. but then there's no time to actually use them :D Since then i've settled on a K6-3+/V3 and a 2600k/780ti for nearly everything i could want to play, and I still need time to set those up properly and actually play …

I had a dual P3-450 system back in the day, and while it was good for desktop use (with windows 2000) it was fast and responsive, for gaming, it made zero difference

A pentium 133 was the go to CPU between mid 1995 and 1997. I remember every school and office pc for a couple of years was a P133, and it co-incides with a golden era of gaming

I've been reliably using IDE to SD adapters.. the only caveat being they have to be the only device on that IDE channel

I have a little netbook running windows XP that i use for my windows 98 boxes. If you enable SMB 1.0 in windows features, it works with windows 10

The top right card being a pci banshee might be worth a little more, and is a good all in one card for pentium/pentium pro systems For maximum compatibility with early dos games, maybe you can run the voodoo 1 (black card) with the voodoo 5?

I have consistent problem with ram, and a lot of boards are (or have become) very fussy about how the sticks are seated. With some boards, if i don't symetrically click in the sticks on both sides at the same time, it won't boot I tried with no ram at all as well, it should at least give me either …

Matrox had great 2D image quality and a fantastic marketing department - that's it. I still remember the Matrox and Pentium Pro posters all over the school IT department and we all wanted those as kids - nothing to do with how good either of those were at gaming, compared to more sensible …

Matrox cards were never great for gaming and have aweful drivers. I would go a TNT or GF2MX because they work, have good drivers and good dos games compatibility. They are also common enough that you can try a few to get one with the sharpest image output

Use a dvi - vga adapter and a vga cable instead.. DVI is a bit funny with older setups

Try a PCI video card instead.. SS7 boards are notorious for being finicky with most AGP cards

Until now I didn't consider to go with SLI. Is the nforce Chipset series the only way to get it work? If so I would think about.. Otherwise I would prefer to look for x48 Mainboards. Also i am doing some research on crossfire at the moment. There's no reason to do SLI/crossfire unless you are …

A fast core 2 duo is really what windows XP is about.. go with an E8600, 4gb of ram, XP 32 bit, an X-fi and a slightly newer video card to make your life easier.. something like a GTX 460.. not much else to it
