Re: Creating text-based EXE files for DOS/DOSBox

Any good ones you can link me to that are free, full, and "view only"? I'm trying to find some, but the only ones I can find that might fit that description aren't in English so I can't figure out what they really do. Edit: Okay, I found View and List Plus. Unfortunately, they won't start when I …

Creating text-based EXE files for DOS/DOSBox

So I was playing Commander Keen: Invasion of the Vorticons, and I found a file called "CK-HINT.EXE" in the directory, which is basically a Hint page in the form of an EXE file, containing information on everything within the game's three episodes. I found a similar one for Duke Nukem 3D, called " …

Applications that play music over games.

I've been playing a lot of DOS games like Alien Rampage and Commander Keen in Invasion of the Vorticons. While they're great games, they're sorely lacking something crucial: music. I was wondering if there are any DOS programs/applications that allow me to play music files (MP3, WAV, CD audio, etc.) …

Re: Free AVI players for DOS

There's dos builds of mplayer. A little overkill though and FYI Hexen 2's avi only plays in the context of inserting the CD/auto run. The game never plays nor installs the AVI. ever So that leaves me three options: 1) imgmount the CD/ISO file for Hexen II. 2) Find a DOS version of mplayer and get …

Free AVI players for DOS

So I'm playing the DOS version of Hexen II's Hammer of Thyrion source port in DOSBox on Mac OS X Snow Leopard. The game works great for me, except for one problem: The opening cinematic doesn't play. I do, however, have an AVI file for the cinematic. I also found a DOS application called QuickView …

Re: DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
It is very unusual that someone that deals with rather advanced concepts, such as multiple choice batch files, on-the-fly speed control in DOSBox, etc, does not know how to use a basic "CD" command. One does not expect that. That's the thing, though. I don't know how to do that stuff on my own. I …

Re: DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
I'm not trying to fight anyone. It's dr_st that seems to have it out for me. This whole thing could've been resolved quickly and harmlessly with a simple: "That sounds very impractical. This way would work better." Why was that so hard? Why is it that every time I post in a forum, I'm ignored or …

Re: DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
Everything you said here can be achieved without the godawful idea of dumping all the different game files in the same directory. Okay, then. Instead of being obnoxiously rude about it, how about you tell me how I do it? How do I configure the bat file to select a file from different folders within …

Re: DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
You don't seem to understand. I know how to go back to the original batch file when I quit a particular game. The problem is that Castle Wolfenstein was made during the time period when a lot of computer games didn't have an option to quit back to DOS when you were done with them. Back then, the …

Re: DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
Well, I did it. I successfully made all seven games load from one .bat file without a problem. All I needed to do was create a separate .bat file for Castle Wolfenstein with the cycle settings, and then have the main .bat file load that .bat file instead of the exe file. And even though Doom and …

Re: DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
That's a remarkably pointless (and also a pretty dumb) idea. Thanks for being so honest with me. Do you show that same amount of honesty to other people? But yes, I freely admit that it's a pointless idea. XD. I just like experimenting with things like this. Though you should probably refrain from …

DOS commands for slowing down speed

in DOS
I'm working on a .bat file that allows me to select the MS-DOS versions of all the first installments of ZeniMax/Bethesda/id's major franchises from one folder so that I don't need to put them all in different directories. The following games in my intended .bat file are: Castle Wolfenstein …
