I have bought many ES1868F-based cards and the ones with the lowest noise (including electrical noise from other PC components) are the Edison Gold 16 Plus/KWX-SC200 and KWX-SND21-W (MPB-000074 1.1) with UTC VFA33 LM386 preamps. Nonetheless even "noisy" cards still had acceptable noise levels.

For the record, the solution I found is to use the unofficial Voodoo3 Windows 3.1 driver along with VBEHZ configured with the correct modelines for my iiyama CRT (I reused the modeslines that are automatically setup by Xorg). In this way I can run Windows 3.1 at 640x480@75 Hz and 16-bit colors.

So I have given away the Yamaha 3D sound card (which is in fact YMF719-S, not ES1868F) and the Edison Gold 16 Plus. Also I noticed the UTD76C Union is a ES1869F (48 kHz), not a ES1868F (44.1 kHz); four cards remain.

The value on my board for this crystal is : TQ14.318B. Presumably 14.318 MHz ? By the way, check the resistor value (in ohms) of your caps. I found out that even caps that look completely fine can have gone bad. You will read a small value or even 0 if the cap has shorted.
