Re: NT4.0 drivers for SB Live CT4760

Quake 2 is running with wavesound instead DirectSound. Maybe with DX5 running, it could use DirectSound and performance could be better That is going under the assumption that Creative (or any other sound card manufacturer) actually bothered to develop drivers with support for an API (directsound) …

Re: NT4.0 drivers for SB Live CT4760

You might find the DirectX 5 beta, but are there any GPU drivers for NT 4 that will actually offer accelerated Direct3D support, even with that DirectX 5 beta installed ? Quake 2 is running with wavesound instead DirectSound. Maybe with DX5 running, it could use DirectSound and performance could be …

Re: NT4.0 drivers for SB Live CT4760

Unfortunately, I can't comment on the performance issues as I haven't used NT 4 in over 10 years and have never used a Live! under it . The driver is neither WDM, which NT 4 does not support (NT based OS support for WDM driver started with Windows 2000) nor, as mentioned before, VxD, which no …

Re: NT4.0 drivers for SB Live CT4760

Maybe the performance penalty would be less with an older, simpler sound card such as an ISA SB16, might be worth investigating. The board i´m using the PPro is the only one i have. ISA slots don´t detect any sound card on startup, dos or windows. This board was fully recapped in February. I sent …

Re: NT4.0 drivers for SB Live CT4760

it´s very dificult to recomend this OS for gaming It was never meant for multimedia/gaming, I'm surprised Creative has drivers available for the Live to begin with, but really as long as the Windows sounds work that's about what could be expected. It's meant for boring workstation or server stuff …

Re: NT4.0 drivers for SB Live CT4760

Try these , I just set up NT4 on a Pentium Pro with a Live! Value (CT4830). I also further installed the latest update that can be found on Creative's website (sblwntup.exe). Works really great for me at the moment, the only issue I encountered was a conflict that was solved by switching PCI slots …
