Re: FMonster, the monster of sound synth

Look at what I've got on the left side of the board... What? No headers for the CSM joystick headers? Kidding aside, the multiple clock settings for the CSM is a nice touch. Will most DOS games sound different but comprehensible at those speeds, or are those settings better suited to …

Re: Adlib & GUS - Can they Conflict?

Glad to hear another success story. I thought I was the only one thinking you didn't need a GUS ACE to run FM in the same PC. BTW, do you still have the hacked WSS driver for the GUS MAX? An upload would be great for future testing. From Toogam.com : The "GUS MAX CoDec driver "hack" v0.2 for …

Re: Adlib & GUS - Can they Conflict?

I did some tests with a GUS MAX 2.1 and a separate FM sound card, and as long as the GUS was kept initialised with SBOS disabled, FM was fine. Issues arose when the GUS wasn't initialised. Didn't test with a GUS classic, so cannot confirm the same behaviour. I'm convinced at this point that …

Re: Throttle Dos

DAE know what throttle actually does....over setmule? Throttle manipulates the power management hardware on your motherboard to disable the CPU cache if desired, then activates throttling control that's also part of the power management hardware. Setmul disables specific CPU features for some CPU's …

Re: Throttle Dos

MrSmiley381 , maybe it's the CPU itself that refuses to get throttled? I've had no luck with a non-MMX Pentium 1 as well on a 430TX with a compatible southbridge. I believe it only works with later CPUs, such as Pentium Pro derivatives (PII, PIII etc.) and, reportedly, AMD K6-#. Whoops, you'd think …

Re: New sound card project: AWE64 Legacy

Dude, what's with all these DIY sound cards? This is too awesome. Major props for implementing the intelligent mode MPU-401. Every standard one of these cards includes is always appreciated. So aside from the CSP/ASP chip used by TFX (an old flight sim) and the option for non-PNP support, is there …

Re: Throttle Dos

This board is currently running on an AT power supply, but I've got an adapter for an ATX power supply with the right three +5VSB/GND/PwrOn cables, and there's even a spot on the motherboard to attach the ATX power button. Is that really what allows the ACPI throttling to work, or am I about to be …

Re: TANDY Dos-Gaming-Thread (1000RL/HD)

What are the best games where the tandy-mode really shines? I've been trying to answer this question as well. As some others have probably done, my first thought was to check Nerdly Pleasures. Great Hierophant posted a bit here about games that were originally built for the Tandy 1000 as the top of …

Re: Throttle Dos

So I've started experimenting with Throttle. I've got a PIIX4 chipset motherboard, an Asus TX97. Just a plain old TX97, none of those -X or -VX or -LE variants. Throttle runs, allows me to select a level of slowdown, and then... nothing changes. Benchmarks are the same. Doesn't matter if it's the …
