Re: Aureal Vortex 2 no music dos games

I may have worded this somewhat poorly. For plain DOS, you only have 2 options for music, one is a poorly emulated FM Synthesis for OPL2 and OPL3 and two is to use either a daughterboard attached to the Vortex 2 or a sound module hooked up to the card externally via the DB-15 (joystick) port on the …

Re: Aureal Vortex 2 no music dos games

Do you have a daughterboard installed on the card or a sound module connected through the DB-15 header? If the answer is no, then you won't be able to use the Vortex's internal Wavetable under pure DOS, although it does work fine through Win9x DOS Box. Your only other option in this case is the …

Re: Pentium 4 'PressHot'

Nice! I have something similar, same motherboard but with a Northwood 3.2GHz instead, 1GB of RAM and an FX 5900 Ultra. I also use SATA for all the drives just because, I should perhaps consider getting a modular PSU for this system, the case is quite cramped. I like the motherboard because it's mATX …

Re: Via C3 Ezra Slot 1 Machine

I use a Nehemiah at ~1466MHz (133MHz FSB) as my main retro system. At that speed, it's roughly as fast as a PIII 733 for demanding 3D games under Windows and usually quite a bit faster in everything else. SETMUL is an amazing tool and you can bring the processor all the way down to just 4x …

Re: GTX980 Issue that makes no sense!

It can't be the core I don't think, but memory I could see being the culprit here. But I've never heard of memory errors shutting down systems like that, unless BSODs are preceding said shut downs. I second the idea to try underclocking and/or overvolting/undervolting using afterburner. I would test …

Re: The good old and glorious 486 DX 50 - and - rant against 25 MHz buses in the Pentium era

I'd be curious to compare the game on the three systems, same configuration, just different CPU (and bus speed accordingly): • DX2 50 • DX 50 • DX2 66 Hey, are you by any chance the Garrett Wang who was Ensign Harry Kim in Star Trek Enterprise?? :exclamation: No, not really. Magic Carpet 2 lists …

Re: 90s isometric cow abduction game?

in Milliways
It was definitely some shareware Win9x game from ~1999. It was essentially an arcade action game, I remember it very vividly for some reason. EDIT: I think I've found it. It's Crop Circles: Escape from Planet 3.

Re: The good old and glorious 486 DX 50 - and - rant against 25 MHz buses in the Pentium era

Don't have much to comment on, but I have some trivia that stayed with me throughout the years. Magic Carpet's minimum system requirements in early 1994 called for a 486 running at 50MHz, but they don't specify whether that's a DX-50 or DX2-50. I'm willing to believe it's the first, which would mean …

Re: 90s isometric cow abduction game?

Anybody know of any 2D isometric cow abduction games from the 90s? Trying to identify one i remember playing. The goal was to abduct the cows with out getting shot down the farmers. Ha, I remember this. I played a demo of it at the time and for some reason it stuck with me. Can't remember the name …
