I confirm that Micro-Labs ET4000/W32i passes the VLSI-200 BIOS tests. The card here looks like this. Doubt that 5ns difference in speed rating for some of the memory chips you used will make the card unstable, but who knows really.

Megatron-uk got his VLSI-200 board from me. It was identical in functionality to yours. I doubt BIOS from him will make a difference. Never used the BIOS test tools on any of the VLSI boards. At least don't remember doing so. What i know is that ET4000/w32i was smooth with any common tests and any apps/games i threw at it. Can try and see if it hangs with the BIOS test. Exactly the same model card here. Good chance the mobo was …

Noticing an interesting pattern. If i let retro PCs idle for a while some of them can get stale and throw a tantrum after the long pause. Looks like will need to do the car thing and fire them up on a regular basis to keep the parts lubricated.

@feipoa ET4000/w32i worked fine on all 286 motherboards i touched so far. I use the very late 2Mb model from Micro-Labs. Something just crossed my mind. Dont know why didn't think and try it before. For cpu upgrades and extra ram it may be better to use one of the very late 286 mobos like this one, or similar. They are not speed demons because of built-in wait states, but support up to 16mb ram and with proper cpu …

never touched the battery related jumpers because i dont have external battery contraption. the onboard battery worked well so never looked what the jumpers do or what the related wiring is. what ram card you have over there ?

I was simply not aware of this and the other thread where I shared the 2.09 version. To me the different bios versions didn't do anything special. So never a point of interest, otherwise would respond 2-3 years ago. I assume the other contributors here come from similar place.

Thanks for the clarifications. At 16mhz scsi will be better than ide. The difference in perf between the 3-4 15xx models is actuallly significant. With 1542c being much better than the early models. At around 20mhz scsi and ide get on par. Past the 20mhz ide pulls ahead. That's what I see here. …

But it absolutely allows 40mhz with 512kb l2 cache and tightest timings easily. That's one of its main qualities. In fact it does it at 50mhz just fine too. Mentioned it before in other threads - one of the very best 486 mobos out there.

Never saw a PVI with AV9155 clock generator. Anyone ? Remember looking at the av9155 datasheet, but it seemed incomplete. The listed frequencies didn't make sense.
