Thanks for the SXL-40 info. Didn't know about them. I tested the MSI MS-3124 with a Mr.BIOS image from TRW but it does not go past 45MHz FSB. That is with IBM BL3 processors. Not sure why, but 50 and 55 MHz are off limit. Motherboard simply does not light-up with it. But now when you mentioned it - …

Already allocated much more time on this than i anticipated. It is a curious problem, so i will probably get back to it at some point not far from now. If you have other ideas that don't require more elaborate setup - i will be happy to try them. Thanks rasz_pl.

Let's just leave it at this: i tried really hard a lot of FPUs. Also, the 40MHz rated ULSI DX/DLC chips scale better than the black top FasMaths. That's for sure. They almost can handle the 55MHz. Run a CheckIt3 test with serial port pins connected like this 1-4-6-9 | 2-3 | 7-8. Pins are labeled on the adaptor which removed the chance of me wrongly connecting them (mirrored). PLCC-68 cam from another 286 upgrade kit (that was dead). PGA-68 is part of the adapter on photos. I simply aligned the pins (they had to be tilted) and soldered them in place. This was time consuming. : )

For 486 systems the level 2 cache is one of the weakest points when it comes down to overclocking. Lowering the amount of L2 cache was not very interesting at the time. I guess i was in a different situation than you are today with that problematic LSD board. You may be looking for a good …
