you're right it's for a RAM expansion, unfortunately those were not standardized at all and unless you can lay hands on the exact one for that board it's probably just a useless slot now

maybe it's so fast it wrapped around the error? i.e. instead of trying to divide by zero it ended up underflowing and dividing by something really big

I agree about NT 3.x, I also found it to be more stable than NT4. Mature 2k was the best of the family IMO.

sure the fuse is a much better analogy I think by focusing on the protection mechanism you're missing the point entirely. None of these guys in the thread were saying there should not be a kernel panic protection, but simply that the frequency with which it was tripped on those platforms betrayed …

this is a oddly specific and obscure question I realise but: does any version of OS/2 support a secondary FDC? that is: one at base port 370 in addition to one at base port 3F0 - both sharing IRQ6 and DMA2 by toggling bit 3 in the respective DORs

The PCB doesn't help me in most cases because KBCs are almost always inconveniently located between the ISA connectors and the board edge, meaning a socket and a transposer on top would probably completely block four ISA slots at the very least :( I asked the guy for a PS/2 card, he gave me a price …
