It will work perfectly fine in DOS on a 286. You do need ASPI2DOS.SYS. You will also need ASPIDISK.SYS for HDDs and ASPICD.SYS for CDROMs. You will not be able to boot from the SCSI hard drive.

"48tpi 80 track" would result in disk media (slightly) larger than an 8" disk - 8" disks are 77 track @ 48tpi a 720kB 5.25" disk is 80 tracks 96tpi, and thus is no more compatible with 40 track disks than a 1.2MB drive is only difference between 720kB and 1.2MB 5.25" is the data rate, track density …

I agree that a brand new module is the best option, however TRUE new old stock isn't terrible either. The clock doesn't run on brand new modules until it's booted for the first time so the shelf life is very long

it's just a bog standard GBS-8200 with a ADC grafted on to it ironically the Tvia 5725 scaler IC supports native digital RGB output, but this design doesn't use it.

ASPI2DOS can be loaded high too IIRC, I think it's just ASPI4DOS that has the problem - likely because the 154x cards use ISA DMA

I'm confused why that program calls the 27C010 a "EEPROM". It's not electrically erasable, it's just an EPROM (single e).
