Re: MUNT 0.1.3 w/ CM-32L support anytime soon?

Qbix: The mt32emu library is buildable using the GNU toolchain (it uses the autotools and gcc). The Win32-specific driver requires MSVC++. I'd love to have the Win32 driver building with MinGW, but there just isn't much incentive for me personally to get that working. Note that it uses ATL, which I …

Re: MUNT 0.1.3 w/ CM-32L support anytime soon?

As moturimi just mentioned, I've made some changed to the MT-32 emulation in ScummVM. It's now in sync with Munt's CVS, so it's the latest and greatest. I'm waiting to see whether anyone using the ScummVM daily builds reports any problems; if not, expect a new Munt release soon. I won't give another …

Re: Lastest Linux version?

You could check it out from Munt's CVS: http://sourceforge.net/cvs/?group_id=123616 The module is named mt32emu_alsadrv. It should link with either mt32emu from CVS or (recommended) 0.1.2 from the files area. Alternatively, wait for the official 0.1.3 release, which will include the ALSA driver (in …

Re: MIDI channels 1 and 10-16 don't work

The MT-32 has 8 melodic "Parts" , and a rhythm part. Each of these parts is mapped to a MIDI channel. By default the parts are mapped to MIDI channels 2 to 10 (with 10 being rhythm). This explains why you're not hearing anything on channels 1 and 11 to 16, but not channel 10. Some keys in the rhythm …

Re: Chained MT-32 "Exc. Checksum error"

I can tell you what the "Exc. Checksum error" almost certainly means: Roland's sysex ("system exclusive") protocol requires a checksum as the last byte of the payload. This byte allows the device (MT-32 in this case) to confirm that the data arrived correctly. So what it's telling you is that the …

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

Note that Talus - who's been extremely helpful in the development of Munt - actually knows what he's talking about. You can safely disregard my guesses. I don't even own an EPROM reader, and the thought of desoldering one of these precious chips makes me vaguely queasy. Unfortunately it seems we're …

Re: Emulator accept Sysex?

Yes, sysex is certainly supported. Please be more specific: What sysex commands are you trying to send, what are you using to send them with, to which version of the MT-32 emulator are you trying to send them, and on which operating system is the emulator running? Does the emulator work as you'd …

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

We know what 1 is, I'm guessing that 2 is the gate array (is it surface-mounted?) and 3 is... something else, but not a ROM. So, it certainly sounds like you were right in the first place about that stickered chip being the control ROM (I guess the marked numbers indicate the version). Is there …

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

Here are my best guesses: IC2 and IC3: PCM ROMs. IC44: Reverb ROM The microcontroller is under that SC daughterboard, I think, so I'm not entirely sure where the control ROM(s) are. The one with the CM-500 sticker on it is a likely candidate, as you said.

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

Interesting stuff, thanks! I could be completely wrong, but I suspect that those four chips are RAM (from Matsushita/Panasonic?). The custom Roland chips generally have the Roland (or BOSS) name on them, and an R-prefixed part number. For example, on an MT-32 I have a photo of (from Canadacow, I …

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

I did read that in your earlier message, but I thought you may be an avid collector and/or want a spare synth in case desoldering ROMs on one of them went bad. And of course I wasn't serious - bid all you like. What I did forget was your question about the control ROM: This does contain instrument …

Re: I own 2 MT-32s, any way to yank the rom?

The typical method of dumping the ROMs is to desolder them (unless you're lucky enough to have them socketed) and use an EPROM programmer to read the data from them. There's a good how-to by The Guru (who's dumped many arcade ROMs for MAME) here: http://unemulated.emuunlim.com/how_to_dump/index.html …

ROMs supported in Munt 0.1.3

Munt 0.1.3 is not far from release, so here's a preliminary list of ROMs that will be supported in that version: PCM ROMs MT-32 : Size : 524288 bytes MD5 hash : 89e42e386e82e0cacb4a2704a03706ca CM-32L additional : Size : 524288 bytes MD5 hash : f7909bed95b04d8dc4cc47970e2bc3e6 Note: The CM-32L …

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

Sorry about that. By pure coincidence, a colleague was going to the UK, so I didn't have to ask about buying internationally. He ended up picking it up for me and paying cash. Turned out to be a pretty good deal :) Shadfax (the Spanish guy) was an absolute pleasure to deal with, and assured me that …

Re: Can I use the rom from a LAPC-1?

I'm not sure whether that's the control ROM; it's certainly possible. Neither the MT-32 nor CM-32L have these ROMs stamped with the name of the device (they just have "Roland" and the part number), but it's entirely possible they did this on the CM-500. I haven't opened up my CM-64 yet. I wouldn't …
