To get rid of HDD size BIOS limitations or DMA errors go SCSI route, but in case of true SCSI (not SATA host adapters with SCSI IDs) you get less performance in pure DOS when with ATA devices, but it saves you from many incompatibilities.

I had same issues, drivers too new, expecting you to setup DX8/9. Stick too old ones like 2.08/8.05/12.41, which is compatible with DX6/7.

Well, about PCBs of Soviet period< yes they are weak that is a result of using old technology for mass production for too long, about 15 years. Look at earlier mass equipment from Japan or even USA till maybe 1985 it will be same, look at the chinese "goods" till maybe 2005 it will be the same.

For such a new PCB it doesn't matter what iron you use, even old unregulated 40-60W from 70s with 5mm tip is ok for recap and can't damage board or traces, just use more flux and solder on the joint. From my experience with ABIT and ASUS BX boards early BIOS allowed 2x multiplier and cache was disabled with a possible 20-30% not to boot up or instabilities even in DOS. It was later patched with 3.0x as lowest possible with full stability.
