if you search this forum, there are a lot of threads about expanded memory under XP. (and fixes) Usually it involves changing some resources on your PC

well it could be a bug on our side. (array too small, uninited variable) Did somebody already check if it happens with 0.74 compiled in VC as well ? I could provide a SVN build compiled with the build system that compiled 0.74.

XPs emulation is pretty flawed. Do you have EMS in a ntvdm while typing mem at all ?

Was this screenshot taken after running lookat ? (as mvpi might do some shellout/crash to shell which causes the command.com as current program.

the original program (METAWND) might have used a findfirst to find it and thus the filedates and cluster locations on the disk might be relavant (what it finds first (the bat or exe)). So the renamed bat file might have worked on a real PC, (by sheer luck)
