I think that whether any one thinks "What.exe" stores the user's choice in a bad or good way is irrelevant. It works in any DOS based operating system and if DOSBox is supposed to emulate DOS, the badly written (in your opinion) programs should also work in DOSBox... Then our opinions differ. …

well that is midi 😀 So even when you record it. You will get an empty wave file you need to record the midi commands for that. But I don't know how to play those back.

I do understand you. If it's midi that you are recording then obviously then you won't hear a thing. It doesn't prevent the file from being made though. Even if there is no music at all a capture file should still be made if you press ctrl-f6. If doesn't make sure the HD isn't full or so.

should be fixed/improved in the next version. Problem was that the dosbox kept on drawing in the fullscreen buffer after the os switched to windows mode.

well try disabling prefetch to see if that changes a thing. futher the check directory entry is a very complex call. you might want to see what it(game) does with the information it gets from it and where it searches for.

hmm of some of the things I'm not certain. interleaving ? r-w subchannels ? And is the audio really not playing ? and locked ? perharps it's locked at request times. Could you try to figure out where the value of this call is used ? with "IV DS:DX result" you should be able to track it more easely. …
