Take a close-up picture of the tube. The pattern on the tube face should reveal if it is a color or monochrome. It is either Monochrome VGA or very early color VGA. I have an NEC multisync (the original from 1986) that has the exact same pins missing. It is a color monitor.

This is a little late, but that sounds like bad caps. If you still have the monitor, and possess some soldering skills, you should open it up and see if there are any obviously bad capacitors. Be careful to discharge the caps before handling them, however, as they can hold a lethal shock.

don't rule out capacitors just because they look fine. Any old electrolytic capacitor ought to be replaced before seriously using a device that old. It is possible that a filter cap is shorted, and is shunting the audio signal to ground. I would check the capacitors just to make sure.

Does the board have any ISA slots present at all? Oftentimes there are holes in the PCB beside other ISA slots that are connected to the ISA bus. Drove 3 1/2 hours to get this IBM PC RT 125 today. Luckily it's been upgraded to modern IDE disks, so the original software should still be intact if they transferred it. It has a really strange monitor connector though, so I'll have to find an adapter cable.
