You could consider using a Pentium and turning off the chip cache and the motherboard cache to give three speeds, covering a broad range of games….

Ah I was hopeful with the CMOS battery suggestion. I've tried two batteries, one reading 3.0v and one reading 3.1v to no avail.

Of course, here it is. Ah, I had to lower the resolution a little for the 2mb limit EDIT - I tried this GPU in another P4 system and same behavior, a momentary pulse of all the fans but no boot. Putting the Radeon 9700 in this second system booted just fine.

Yes could be the caps, none are bulging but they still could be going off. It's also possible I fried the CPU with inadequate Prescott cooling. I only have a few other P4HTs and reluctant to risk them.
