http://www.gamers.org/dEngine/quake/QDP/qconcmds.html "vid_wait 1" means wait on vertical sync and is not a dosbox setting, but a setting for Quake.

Quake's in-game console does not allow you to set dosbox speed. In any case, for best experience (unless your looking for the original experience for nostalgic reasons) for Quake or Doom you should probably use a source-port instead of an old DOS version. DOSBox ECE, DOSBox-X and DOSBox-Staging seem to be popular alternatives, in addition to DOSBox SVN. DOSBox-X has most of the Daum features and is actively maintained.

You cannot CD into a directory, unless it is on your current drive. So if you installed Windows onto C: you first need to change to the C: drive before you can CD to the Windows directory. This is basic DOS stuff. C: CD WINDOWS

I'm afraid I don't follow you. If I start dosbox-x with those settings I get a Swiss French layout in DOSBox-X with the integrated DOS. Did you install with one type of sound card, and then change the sblaster settings in your config? Speaking of which, what does your [sblaster] section look like?

When you say that sound is not working properly, can you explain what the problem is? I have found that it works, but if there is a lot going on, such as when Win98 is starting, and your PC is perhaps not very powerful you can get sound sound skipping.

You can script dosbox. Just give it a conf file with an [autoexec] section that does EXIT at the end. Or just use a ton 0f "-c command" options. Only problem is that it causes the dosbox window to pop up for a moment. On Windows you can use --nogui to suppress it, but not on Linux unfortunately.

start dosbox from the command prompt with the "-console" option to see the dosbox log, which may, or may not, contain the error depending on what generates it.
