Re: CGA/EGA capture with 6€ logic analyser

Still noisy, once you get clear pulses without artifacts in each pulse (zoomed in) then you are golden. That requires better logic analyzer, that 6 buck thing will not cut it. Cheers, I have to disagree. The sample rate is fully sufficient. The issue here is clock recovery or rather the lack …

Re: CGA/EGA capture with 6€ logic analyser

The idea is not new. The main problem is that Saleae Socket API does not allow to receive a continuous stream of data. But.. There is a very similar project using a fx2lp microcontroller Cypress CY7C68013A on demoboard LCSOFT CY7C68013A (like Chinese-clone Saleae 8 ch): https://github.com/y- …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

Some thing is weird.. with Real SID its Stuck at Boot. SID is 100% working, tested in C64 and getting 12V Power from Card. i Suspect Power Filtering. SwinSID works fine. EDIT: issue is solved by adding 100nf and 10uf to 12V VCC rail. Do you mean the axial 10µF capacitor or did you add another one …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

I suspect the SID is damaged and the SwinSID is borked as well. The fiest SwinSid worked fine. I sent that one out after the giveaway. What about your SwinSID, @matze79? Unless the socket is damaged. You could put the SID back in and measure the address lines one more time. This time from the ISA …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

Just measured Pin 20 on LS245 to Pin25 on SID reads at 0 Ohms. Which is fine, I guess? EDIT: I measure 4.76V on all 5V pins in my 386, e.g. on spare Molex connectors etc. And steady 12.6V on the 12V line. I am using a modern modular ATX PSU. I would have assumed that it is pretty good quality, but …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

Oh dear... it kind of works with the SID 6581... But I only get one voice. :-D Could it be that the SID is defective? Or some problem with addressing? EDIT: The SwinSID that I have outputs NOTHING. So maybe something wrong with the PCB? Bad solder joints? I have to double check.... The weakest link …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

Ok, I am almost done soldering. However I do not understand your notes fully. Do I need to populate C20 and C21 for the 6581? The schematics don't mention those... Also the voltage regulator is not needed, right? Because I can take the 12V from the ISA bus EDIT: Found the second note that speaks …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

Indeed. I *THINK* I put everything in there (except for the STM32), so you probably you need actually LESS. @benedikt: any chance that in the future we might simply have three jumpers, to choose STM32/6581/8580? Furthermore: Look at what I just got on loan - let's hope it still works! A jumper …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

I didn't notice the files were offered. Perhaps I will look into getting a small PCB run done. I would like to slap this in my PII. I have a Mouser project shared, so that you don't need to make your own: https://www.mouser.com/ProjectManager/ProjectDetail.aspx?AccessID=7cafd92be9 It contains …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

Lol, I discovered this project only 3 hours after the giveaway stream, that's too funny. Are PCB's available for purchase at this time? I'd love some SID magic in my DOS machine, I don't have a C64 anymore and used to only run soundmon really No, there are no PCBs left. It was only a five-piece run …

Actually, it has been tried with a SwinSID, only: https://youtu.be/0BeAUigWrrg?t=10800 The SwinSID generates its own clock signal, though, so the pitch might be a bit off compared to a real (or …

Re: Say "Hi!" to the Renovation SSI-2001!

If the SID you plan to borrow is a 6581, you might be able to get away with lifting pin 1 (bottom right) of the regulator and bridging pin 2 and 3, setting VDD to 12V. If it's an 8580, you will have to replace the two configuration resistors (for VDD=9V) and probably also the SID's filter capacitors …
