the one is supposed to have read speeds of up to 120MB/s and write speeds of up to 85MB/s. When I tested it on my win 10 machine with a CF adapter to usb it wrote at 10mb... so wtf? it was sold by sandisk on amazon. That one installed ok. It actually properly identifies the CF in device manager now instead of it being "generic type 47" or whatever. Read and Write speeds seem to be roughly the same as before though. https://imgur.com/a/p4Uan6o

alright got another update. I finally updated the BIOS. I dunno why i put it off so long. Anyway, I used the image Doornkaat linked. Once the flash was over I went into the BIOS and set every thing to default which sets the UMDA settings to AUTO. Went into windows and the DMA checkbox stayed checked …

So it seems like you can boot from those just fine but apparently you can't use an optical drive with it under dos. Which is a bummer and not very ideal. Unless you can just leave your optical on the mobos IDE controller and the HDD on the PCI controller but that sounds like a potential nightmare to …

yea when I use the HDD that came with the machine DMA works fine. I'll try emailing Jan about testing out the image though. thanks for the suggestion.

IIRC there's a bug with some Pentium BIOS and DMA mode. As there was only one DMA mode back then, anything else was considered "not DMA compatible". hey guys just wanted to give you a little update. got the ps/2 bracket in there working and all good to go. had to rewire the dupont plug thing and it was a little tight plugging it in... but got every thing working relatively painlessly. thanks alot guys. no more ball mice for me.

Yes, since the SC-55 only ever see the secondary voltage anyway. But you can also run the Japanese AC adapter with 120v. It's a transformer-based PSU, so it will probably output 10.8v in that case. The SC-55 however won't care, since all the voltage regulation happens inside the unit and that works …
