I use a 1TB sshd with winXP and it's great. I also use ssds with win98 because they conveniently and cheaply come in the treasured 120gb capacity.

You are much better off with a K6-2+ or 3+ (or a via C3). You are not playing lots of DOS games with a CPU that can't easily be slowed down to 386 speeds.

You really only want to use the FX series with Win98 and DX8. FX blows hard with DX9...which is the XP era. XP is better off with something far more powerful like a GTX560. Creative T20 speakers with as much spdif as possible into a decent headphone DAC. Small mixer to mox DAC output with the output of a midi stack and that's it.

It's a difficult bridge to cross. WinXP means dx9, and cards with good dx9 support often lose compatibility with win98. I would say a geforce FX 5500 (fairly cheap), but it is not a strong performer. FX 5900 Ultra is better but expensive. You are better of with 2 PCs, one for 98 and one for XP.

As a follow up question - do any Geforce FX drivers allows VSYNC to be forced? I am playing a game (Star Trek Elite Force) that is tearing a bit, but neither the game, nor the drivers (61.76) appear to have it as an option.

Are you using a usb cf adapter? I use one and it works fine. I was able to format as fat16 on win10 using a partition program. What happens if you do format using win10? Does it see it then?
