Also why I have been, from day 1, downloading and archives the full offline GOG installers for all GOG games earlier than about 2004 (that I am likely to want to play on a retro PC). I am afraid at some point the new installers will screw me over.

One reason i dual boot win7 with xp. I can potentially install under win7, do a reg diff, then play under winxp. The game partition is mounted as D on both.

Make a new batch of 4:3 LCDs that have native support for odd resolutions from the early days (rectangle pixels), multiple VGA and DVI input ports with front panel button switching, and with IPS panels.

It's probably true to an extent. Capacitors from the era were better and they actually gave a damn about analogue because that's all they had. As sound cards became more "advanced" they introduced all kinds of internal resampling and other crap that made the SB Live! sound worse than an 8bit SB Pro …
