FX 59x0 is like a super fast Ti 4600, but a GF 6600GT will blow them away even in some DirectX 8 / OpenGL 1.4 games. They also seem to have somewhat higher driver CPU overhead. Info in threads here. The quadro is excellent if not better than the fx. And you can flash it into an fx if needed. And as you noticed they are substantial cheaper I suggest watching some videos on Phil's computer lab, I think he talks about this.

I've actually decided to get rid of most of my pre-ATX gear and keep the newer stuff. I can play DOS games just fine on a P-MMX or PII, and once you're in that "era" the machines become an order of magnitude less of a pain in the ass in every way. Not of their own volition, I imagine any protected mode OS would clear any existing interrupts and page tables etc so it can have complete control. I could be wrong of course 😁

Even if you "loaded" it NT would wipe it from memory and probably clear interrupt vectors as well...I.e. it would not survive very long.

I use fairly generic LG dvd drives and they work....they might be dvd-rom/cdwr though .... so maybe when dvd writers came out they stop supporting audio.

News to me. A drive with an audio out connector that doesn't support audio out is pretty stupid. I have never seen one like that so the chances of it happening again are pretty remote.

Seems like a run of the mill win98 box to me. And yes win98 benefits from dual channel ram. Stick to directx8 and below and the gpu should be fine, although its a mid range card be aware. If uour motherboard has a 4pin 12v atx connector you can use any modern power supply without issue. SB Live is …
