Re: The Star Wars Build

The vortex should not conflict with the ISA card if you don't install DOS drivers for it. I would give it a try at least. And the AWE doesn't really give you anything over the yamaha IMO...most games with AWE support likely have GM support as well. Unless you are really keen on loading special …

Re: is this AGP 8x or 4x GF 4200

Weird. I have never had any issues with AGP, despite having a P5A ss7, 2 x s370 systems, and one each of s462 and s478. Cards are all AGP and range from s3 virge GX to savage4 to v3 3000 to v5 5500 to fx5950u. I fully expected I would one day but nope. Don't ask me about trying to get a SBLive/ …

5.25" bay Speaker System

I saw this on a certain auction website....a NOS speaker system that fits in a 5.25" drive bay!! Has anyone ever seen/heard of something like this before? The weird stuff that came out in the 90s amazes me. Edit: updated to correct bay size.

Re: Running DOS on modern hardware is impossible

in DOS
DOS will boot on almost anything with an x86 processor. Even modern video cards will support a surprising amount of standard VESA modes. The hard part is getting sound... but even then, every motherboard has a PC speaker. And until a few years ago, a parallel port - can you still get brand new …

Browsing the past with Wayback Machine

in Milliways
Do you ever browse PC/gaming websites from the late 90s using the Wayback Machine (https://archive.org/web/)? I find something amazing opening a bunch of links from say late 1998 and pretending as if I was there at that time reading about the "new" Voodoo2 and how awesome it is going to be. Try …
