Re: Far Cry

in Windows
With this new build of DSOAL, Far Cry 32 bit appears to be using DirectSound3D/EAX3.0.

Re: Far Cry

Crysis 1 64 bit works perfectly on AMD CPUs (it's still CPU heavy but it works). The 32-bit version requires a modification to the executable to ensure that the game does not crash, due to the missing 3DNow instruction (if you have an AMD CPU), but there is no reason to use Crysis 32-bit, unless you …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
I'm sure FC will get a proper remaster at 64-bit at some point, as Crysis did. It makes no sense to leave that game on the table, when it's so classic and people want a good single-player FPS game. I'm sure with some code polishing and replacement, it could be put out on today's systems. I don't …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
jonpol, I would like to ask you a question: have you ever thought, with your knowledge, of contributing to the development of DSOAL? I think it could speed up its development.

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
Anyway, returning to the main theme of this topic, I wanted to report the latest developments of OpenAL Soft, hoping it will be of interest to jonpol (perhaps for IndirectSound 😁).

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
HRTF, from what I've read, seems recommended only with stereo headphones and not for stereo speakers, right? The resampler set to "bsinc24" is useful for some old games with low quality audio like GTA San Andreas. I set the sample rate to 48000 because Windows is set the same way, and I also play …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
UT sounds pretty bad. "Cicadas" in DM-StalwartXL: https://streamable.com/c7ownw Turn off HRTF and set the speakers to stereo in the OpenAL Soft Settings, see if that changes anything. This is my configuration file: [General] frequency=48000 stereo-mode=speakers drivers="wasapi," channels=stereo …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
The only X-Fi with no OpenAL playback buffers corruption is the Titanium one. All the other ones have problems with OpenAL. The only "hardware" solution is to use an Audigy RX (or an Audigy 2 with modded RX drivers). Unreal 2 plays "totally right" only with an Audigy 2-class card. Maybe you mean …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
Mass Effect 1 Legendary Edition I doubt it supports EAX so you won't notice any difference between the old and new version of OpenAL Soft. I think you should use the original Mass Effect 1 for EAX. But I could be wrong. I also wanted to buy an old X-Fi Titanium for old EAX games but, reading about …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
Does new OpenAL Soft work with Mass Effect 1 (Legendary edition too) properly? Do i need eaxefx patcher? eaxefx_app_patcher is only needed in Doom 3, Quake 4 and Prey (fixes bugs in these three games). The new OpenAL Soft should support EAX in all OpenAL games that use EAX. For DirectSound games …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
You only need eaxefx_app_patcher.exe for those three games. This is what the EAXEFX site says: "Resolved issues: Doom 3 (2004) visual twitch bug. Quake 4 (2005) source occlusion out of range. Prey (2006) source occlusion out of range. Only runtime patching is supported for Steam version." Now all …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
I have tried to compile OpenAL Soft with Visual Studio in the past but without success, hope you have better luck than me. I solved it with MSYS2 (if you want, I can share the binaries). Yes, the developer of OpenAL Soft and DSOAL is the same, but it is very concentrated with OpenAL Soft (DSOAL is …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
I know these things but that's not what I wrote. EAXEFX is now useless as the EAXEFX developer himself has implemented EAX in OpenAL Soft: https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft/commit/19ed994dc30ed84ea7cbbb5152577669fc25caf6. DSOAL, according to the developer kcat (please read here: https://github.com …

Re: indirect sound

in Windows
I don't know if it might interest anyone (maybe jonpol 😃) but OpenAL Soft now supports EAX! https://github.com/kcat/openal-soft/commit/19ed994dc30ed84ea7cbbb5152577669fc25caf6 However, there is still no DirectSound wrapper that makes use of this new implementation (OpenAL games that use EAX should …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
UT 2004 64 bit is graphics-wise bugged, by the way (it has the bugged D3D9 renderer only 'cause there's no D3D8 64 bit). It's why we've always avoided it. Red Mercury (Unreal Engine 2 based too) has the 64 bit patch on the CD release - it's NOT available as a download - and no one knows that.....' …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
64-bit versions of windows XP and server 2003 came out in April 2005. The first 64-bit AMD Opteron CPUs came out two years earlier in April 2003, but I guess at the time Linux would have been your only option to utilize the 64 bits of that CPU. Seeing as hardware EAX doesn't work on Linux, guess no …

Re: Far Cry

in Windows
Given that EAX doesn't work on 64-bit games due to the "laziness" of the developers, it is strange that in 2004-2005 nobody talked about it in the forums (I couldn't find anything). I think a lot of people had a Sound Blaster in those years. Perhaps few had a 64-bit PC with 64-bit XP, but none of …
