Quick answer: No the Vibra chips are PnP and require a ICU/CTM or other software to enable the plug-n-play chip, will not work on 286. You need a jumper set card or early EEPROM software type (like Aztech type that Packard Bell used). Just a quick answer...

Be careful shorting any pins. I use a pencil lead (the graphite+clay core has some resistance) to short Reset pins if am not sure and even if I am but too lazy to grab a switch. For one you cannot boot a 486 with one 30pin SIMM, it needs four matched SIMMS preferably 9 chip 1MB each but 3 chip 1MB should work. In SIMM1 thru 4. 66Mhz crystal usually means a 33Mhz or DX2-66 486. The ALI m1419 chipset can help narrow it down but need a ROM dump to see the AMI bios string.
