Do both HD 3850 have same exact Video BIOS ? Some (very few) boards/bios + vid cards/video bios do not proper reset on a cold start or warm reboot. I looked thru Bigelow's PC Tech Trouble shoot ref from 1999 and it had nothing good you did not already find. Looked thru my IBM NetVista docs but no real POST cards codes found that would help. Will look around tomorrow but have doubts will find anything.

Odd ! The G33 chipset supports USB 2.0 so nearly any USB KB should work. Just for shits-n-grins try one of the front ones. If that does not work then your XP media does support Intel USB 2.0 in "install mode" which is very weird for XP SP3...

Hmm you do ask a good question but think it best you sell it and get a real "vintage" MAC like a Power MAC 7200/7300/7500 and learn Mac from when they competed against late Soc 5 and early Socket 7 PC. Just my opinion 😀

I have a few old versions of DrivePro (1.x and 2.x) and Disk Manager (3.5 and 4.05) that should run on a 286 but they may not work if your HD controller is non-standard.

Interesting ! From the 6058/6059 maintenance manual it lists the NIC as ROULETTE ETHERNET ADAPTER IBM PN: 19K4885 and here is the picture showing longer PCI slot but no mention in the manual as to why:
