Re: New sound card project: AWE64 Legacy

Yeah, I'm going to buy any AWE64 I'll come across to save them all. That seems awfully spiteful, but you do you. Edit: That being said... While I think hoarding any retro hardware is selfish and spiteful, I agree with hard1k that I'd rather they were hoarded than bought up by scrappers. I wasn't …

Re: New sound card project: AWE64 Legacy

Destroying original, never to be produced again, SB Awe 64 Value cards to build something so amateur and over-complicated, which offers so little improvement, if any, and it is not retro hardware anymore, over using 2 original retro sound cards in a true retro system, escapes my mind. There are …

AWE32 doesn't have the cleanest output, but it's certainly better, than SB Pro. If you care about FM synth, stick with AWE32. Most of the AWE32 versions allow you to put more RAM in it, if that's the one you've got, stick with it. AWE64 uses proprietary module, which is almost impossible to find. …

Re: Most compatible music card with DOS games?

I have SoundBlaster AWE64 and it's noisy and too quiet in these games. Maybe it's because there is no this synthesis on the Yamaha system? I found a nice SoundBlaster 16 CT2910 card which has a Yamaha YMF289 chip. The Yamaha sounds nice, better than the "replacement" CTs. Would the sound be OK on …

Re: Most compatible music card with DOS games?

I'd say you're right, Sound Blaster 16 should work almost everywhere. I don't reckon it matters what model you use, all of them are practically the same with slight differences, like missing ASP chip or CD ROM interface. The biggest difference between models, however, would be FM synthesis. Some use …
